Prof. ANA KOCHEVA, PhD

Prof. Ana Kocheva, PhD, is a linguist and head of the Department for Bulgarian Dialectology and Linguistic Geography at the Institute for Bulgarian Language at BAS. She has published scores of studies exploring the history of the Bulgarian language; has taken part in drafting the Map of the Bulgarian dialects of BAS and also leads the national project Dictionary of the Bulgarian Dialects. She has authored the unique Map of the Bulgarian language in new places worldwide which encompasses 15 million Bulgarian-speaking (as per ethnic origin) people. Prof. Kocheva has participated in a survey of the language of the Bulgarian community in Vienna and as a result has published a monograph, The mixed language of the Viennese Bulgarians. She has penned a series of monographs, a few studies and dozens of articles addressing linguistic issues. She has delivered lectures to Bulgarian students from Bessarabia, the Western Outlands and Macedonia organized on a regular basis by the Bulgarian Memory Foundation. Prof. Kocheva leads the project Interactive culinary map of the Bulgarian language territory.

Slavka-Keremedchieva

Prof. SLAVKA KEREMIDCHIEVA, PhD

Prof. Slavka Keremidchieva, PhD, as member of the Department for Bulgarian Dialectology and Linguistic Geography at Prof. Lyubomir Andreychin Institute for Bulgarian Language at BAS, has dedicated her entire career to the study of Bulgarian dialects at all linguistic levels. She has taken part in collective academic works of great national importance – the Dictionary of the Bulgarian Dialects and the Atlas of Bulgarian Dialects, Generalizing Volume (in four volumes). Prof. Keremidchieva leads the Bulgarian commission in the international team working on the Slavic Linguistic Atlas, a comprehensive project on linguistic geography. Her research areas include Bulgarian and Slavic linguistic geography, dialect phonology, lexicology and lexicography and more particularly, the Rhodope dialects. The results of her research have been published in dozens of monographs, studies and articles, maps and atlases.

Margarita-Koteva

Asst. Prof. Margarita Koteva, PhD

Assistant Professor Dr. Margarita Koteva works at the Department for Bulgarian Dialectology and Linguistic Geography at Prof. Lyubomir Andreychin Institute for Bulgarian Language at BAS. She has participated in the following projects: "Slavic Linguistic Atlas", "Study of Bulgarian dialects at different linguistic levels. Bulgarian Dialect Dictionary", "Cultural and Historical Heritage, National Memory and Social Development" and "Interactive Culinary Map of the Bulgarian Language Territory". She has specialized in Karl Franz University in Graz, Austria. Dr. Koteva is the author of the book "Names related to foods and their preparation in Bulgarian dialects (lexico-semantic characterization)". Her scientific publications are in the field of dialectology, linguogeography, ethno-linguistics, lexicography and comparative linguistics.

Aliza Halil-Konstantinova, PhD

Aliza Halil-Konstantinova, PhD is a doctoral student at the Department for Bulgarian Dialectology and Linguistic Geography at the Institute for Bulgarian Language, BAS. The topic of her dissertation is: Vernacular models of naming traditional types of alcoholic drinks in the Bulgarian dialects. She takes part in the project Interactive culinary map of the Bulgarian language territory.

Institute for Bulgarian Language at BAS

Prof. Lyubomir Andreychin Institute for Bulgarian Language at BAS is one of the oldest institutes in the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. The institute operates as a research centre for the study and description of the Bulgarian language – of its contemporary state, history, dialect diversity and its connection with other languages. The priority research areas of the Institute for Bulgarian Language include: theoretical linguistic research; academic dictionaries of the Bulgarian language; language e-resources and tools for their processing; language competence; Bulgarian cultural and historical linguistic heritage; sources for the history of the Bulgarian language.
